Today, she runs Nest Properties Austin and continues to push herself and her team to improve their business through effective communication, teamwork, education and technology. Julie.Landlordlette.2018.02.07Landlordette: Let’s talk about you! Who you are, where you came from. All of it!

Julie: I was born and raised in Houston alongside my twin brother, Alan. We were blessed with incredible parents, Dennis and T.J, who instilled great values in each of us and taught us the value of hard work and perseverance. Although I left Texas after high school to attend college at the University of San Diego, I ultimately returned to Austin and graduated from the University of Texas – Austin. It was then that I fell in love with this town and all that Austin has to offer. I’ve lived here for over 20 years and cannot imagine living anywhere else.

Landlordette:   What influenced you to get where you are at today?

Julie: My entire career has revolved around working with people and striving to provide exceptional customer service. Real estate has offered an incredible opportunity for me to use my gifts of service and problem solving to find creative solutions for my clients. My objective is to act in the BEST interest of my clients – every day; this motto has allowed me to grow my business as both a REALTOR® and broker. After over a decade in the business, I felt nudged to create Nest Properties Austin and build a team of agents who share a passion for providing the finest level of ethical and professional services to our clients and customers. At Nest, we are dedicated to constantly improving our business through effective communication, teamwork, education and technology. It is an honor and a privilege to work in tandem with and mentor agents who are customer focused and passionate about taking care of our clients’ needs.

Landlordette:  We know that the road to success isn’t always easy…have their been struggles? What first comes to mind as your biggest obstacle if so?

Julie: The biggest challenge has been learning to grow from an individual agent to managing a brokerage while still maintaining my first love – helping clients buy and sell real estate.  There is quite a bit of work that goes on behind the scenes when managing a real estate brokerage.  I strive every day to maintain a work-life balance. My husband, Scott, and I share four very active teenagers, so juggling their activities along with working full time has forced me to prioritize and to work efficiently and productively. I have worked diligently to streamline our systems and delegate when necessary, a challenge for those of us who like to be involved in all of the details!  


Landlordette:  How did you overcome this struggle? What advice would you give to those in difficult situations today?

Julie: Without a doubt, there have been times when I have felt completely overwhelmed with all of the responsibilities that come with managing a brokerage and our family.  However, I’ve found that prioritizing tasks and delegating responsibilities has helped a great deal. It has been an invaluable gift to be surrounded by the support of my husband, Scott, our family and all of the amazing people who play a key role in the success of Nest Properties Austin.  

Landlordette:  If you could, would you change anything?

Julie: If I could change anything, I would love to have 48 hours in a day!

Landlordette: Love that! Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?

Julie: Absolutely!  Luck has played a role in my life and business, but much of my success has been the result of a strong work ethic and a positive, “can do” attitude.

Landlordette: Let’s talk real estate…what have you seen change the most since you started out in the industry?

Julie: When I first entered the real estate industry almost 20 years ago, we were completing contracts on paper.  As agents, we were driving across town at ridiculous hours of the day and night to obtain initials and signatures on contracts. Our listings were primarily marketed through the MLS and print advertising.  We had access to limited information about properties for our buyers. Today, we have an abundance of online resources available, which has allowed for a more efficient and sophisticated real estate experience.

Landlordette: Any shout outs? Who has played a meaningful role in getting you where you are today?

Julie: There are so many! I am incredibly grateful to my parents for teaching me the value of working hard and treating people kindly. My kids inspire me everyday and my husband, Scott, has been a wonderful partner and my “rock” when life gets crazy!  Lastly, I am thankful to all of the people in our industry who raise the bar and inspire me to do the same!      

Landlordette: A couple fun questions…If you could have an all expense paid vacation anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

Julie: Hands down – Italy!  I love the beauty, the food, the history, the weather, the wine and, of course, the hospitality of the Italian people!

Landlordette: Would you rather have your dream car or your dream wardrobe?

Julie: A dream wardrobe sounds fabulous!
