We’re back! Today we’re featuring Inis Cohen with Cove Realty! Inis has been in the industry for 25 plus years. Needless to say she has a lot of knowledge! Let’s dive into the Q & A to find out more…
Landlordette: Tell us a little about your background, where you’re from, etc.
Inis Cohen: Around 25 years ago I started Cove Realty out of my home. I had three young children at the time and one of them had special needs. Thus, I felt Real Estate was the perfect job that I could so largely from my home! It worked out great; because I could still raise my children, and be a wife to my husband Dr. Sidney Cohen, who was gone frequently delivering babies! I was able to keep the family together and still invest in Real Estate and then decided to get my license. I love the buy and the sell of property and truly do not mind the management of the property. Today, I have quite a few partnerships and own over 20 properties. Patience is key. I have earned over a million dollars in buying and selling undeveloped lots in South Barrington, IL.
Landlordette: We know there are ups and downs, what comes to mind as the biggest struggles you’ve faced?
Inis Cohen: It is not easy being a landlord and a real estate broker. You are called at all hours of the day and night and you are expected to solve problems immediately! I was a former teacher for junior high school and then Special Education. Those jobs were tough in their own way but definitely didn’t prepare me for real estate. One of my biggest struggles was finding the balance after switching careers.
Landlordette: What advice would you give to those in that same position today?
Inis Cohen: Continue to further your education! I definitely feel that my choice to do so as well as becoming a broker has helped me in my business immensely! It’s not going to always be easy but surround yourself with employees that are hard working, positive, and like minded. Finding good people can make a world of a difference.
Landlordette: Speaking of surrounding yourself with good people, any shout outs? Any mentors that have helped you along the way?
Inis Cohen: Oh definitely! I have had many mentors along the way. My friend Linda has always been there for me and constantly encourages me. Things like telling me to keep up the good work and reinforcing my work ethic when we meet. They seem like small things but they’re not. They make a huge difference.
